What is foot reflexology
Foot reflex therapy, also known as foot reflex zone massage.
It is called reflexology when the massage is given with the goal of alleviating and/or reducing complaints and symptoms (sometimes associated with an underlying disease). It is called a foot reflex zone massage when there is no specific goal being worked on. Nevertheless, with every massage we come together and discuss your current needs.
Simply for relaxation is therefore also possible!
Foot reflex zone massage (long name, often called ‘foot reflexology’) has already been practiced for thousands of years before Christ. This can be traced back from the wall paintings which were made at the time. Nowadays, it is regarded and used as a natural or alternative medicine.
How does foot reflexology work
The actual mechanism has not yet been determined scientifically. What we base it on is that the feet are divided into zones. These zones reflect respective organs and/or tissues. By massaging these zones in specific ways, the body’s self-healing potential receives a boost to restore its balance again.
At times it fully suffices in itself, other times it is a helpful adjuvant and occasionally the improvements are inexplicable.
Another premise is that because nerves endings in our feet are connected to many parts of the body, it is possible that these areas are directly affected by the massage. Hence as a reflex.
The massage is definitely relaxing, although it can at times be sensitive or painful; often where the imbalance in the body is reflected on the foot. Besides indicating an imbalance in the body via these pain triggering points, the feet are also in a sense able to indicate what is going on in that person’s body or life itself. I like to call them storytellers :-). A painful reflex zone corresponding to the kidneys can, for example, indicate that anxiety prevails, there is a reduced zest for life or that sadness lurks.
When to have foot reflexology
You can have foot reflexology for relaxation, as a supplement for, e.g., detoxing, weight loss, inducing labour or with regards to specific health complaints, such as digestive problems, intestinal problems, fertility problems, headache, menstrual complaints, back complaints and hormonal complaints. It can be given for many things. Get in touch if you would like to know more.
